Accommodation and amenities
A family farmhouse in the rural heart of Elba
Casa Marisa is a historic family home, converted into an agriturismo in 1972. The thick walls, typical of traditional Tuscan country houses, keep the interiors cool in summer without needing air conditioning. The apartments are spacious and independent, designed to make you feel right at home after a day out on the trails.
Casa delle Rose: three-room apartment with private garden
Our most popular apartment: an independent three-room apartment on the ground floor, beautifully renovated in a shabby chic style. It features two bedrooms, each with direct access to the garden (perfect if you are sharing with another couple), and a large private lawn with olive trees and grapevines. There is also a barbecue for grilling vegetables fresh from the garden or meats from the local butcher.
This is your very own corner, overlooking olive groves, vineyards and a delicate rose garden.
The apartments
The property offers 5 more apartments (one of which can be split into two units). All accommodations are spacious, functional and come with a fully equipped kitchen. Fans are available for warmer days, and heating is provided for winter stays.
- Merlot (three-room apartment): ground floor, set among the vineyards; interconnects with Vermentino, making it ideal for groups or large families
- Vermentino (two-room apartment): compact and bright; can be combined with Merlot to create the spacious Vigneto apartment
- Glicini 1 (three-room apartment): ground floor, 150 metres from the main building; with views of the Le Prade nature reserve and the Gulf of Portoferraio
- Glicini 2 (three-room apartment): first floor with a private terrace; same panoramic setting
- La Loggia (two-room apartment): in the main building; with a loggia overlooking the garden, olive groves and Portoferraio on the horizon

Outdoor activities and experiences
Hiking, biking and beach: start directly from the agriturismo
At Casa Marisa, you can head out straight on your bike or on foot.
Eugenio, a born-and-bred Elba local, knows every trail inside out and can connect you with local guides and bike shuttle services if you want to explore more “remote” areas.
Hiking: GTE and scenic trails
The agriturismo is an excellent base if you want to tackle the central stages of the GTE (Grande Traversata Elbana), or if you are looking for a convenient starting point to explore different sections of the trail each day.
It is a 60 km ridge trail from Cavo to Pomonte.
In the garden, you will also find the official National Park map with CAI-numbered trails.
For day trips, Eugenio highly recommends the trail to Volterraio Castle, the oldest fortress on Elba Island, which starts just a few kilometres from the agriturismo.
The view from up there? Well, imagine a picture-perfect postcard in vivid colours, where the deep blue of the sea and the green of the trees embrace you in all their power. You will experience a sense of absolute freedom, breathing in the salty sea air and feeling as if you could soar over the Gulf of Portoferraio, letting your gaze wander to the silhouettes of Corsica and Capraia on the horizon.
MTB and e-bikes: the GPE and Elba's trails
La GPE (Grande Pedalata Elbana) passes close to the property: approx. 90 km and 2,300 metres of elevation gain, a challenging route to complete in a single day, but highly rewarding if you want to test your limits with the right training.
Casa Marisa is close to the ridge section of the GPE, which is faster and more flowing, but features climbs that will definitely test your legs 😉
The greenhouse bike storage allows you to keep your bike safe and recharge your e-bike when you return to the agriturismo.
Eugenio can arrange direct bike delivery to the property or a bike shuttle service to pick you up at the end of your ride.
Sea, diving and sailing in the Gulf of Portoferraio
The beach of Schiopparello-Le Prade is just 200 metres away: colourful pebbles, tamarisk trees for shade, and views of Portoferraio. A peaceful oasis that remains uncrowded even in the height of summer – almost a miracle on Elba Island!
Just 800 metres away, in the hamlet of Magazzini, you will find diving centres to hire SUPs, surfboards, bodyboards, canoes, boats, or full equipment for snorkelling and guided dives.
Golf and horse riding: just minutes from the agriturismo
The Acquabona golf course is only 2 km away. In Portoferraio, you will also find riding stables offering lessons and hacks, including pony rides for children.
Vegetable garden and wine
When you arrive at Casa Marisa, you leave the world behind
When you arrive at Casa Marisa, you can park your car and forget about it for your entire holiday.
You can walk to get groceries and to the beach: both are just a few minutes away.
In the evening, after your active day, you return to the farmhouse and relax with a glass of Elba wine poured directly by the owner.
Yes, because excellent wine is produced right here.
You can also head to the vegetable garden to gather fresh vegetables: you’ll find a basket in your apartment to fill with the wholesome fruits of the land, depending on the season. Tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines, basil and rosemary.
And if the hens have behaved, you can collect their eggs to make a delicious frittata. The next day, if there is any left, you can tuck it between two slices of Tuscan bread and enjoy it by the sea. It tastes even better there, guaranteed!
The welcome is genuinely warm: Eugenio lives on-site with his family and knows every inch of his land.
He will recommend the best restaurants, trails and routes for your walks and bike rides. And of course, the finest local recipes: stuffed anchovies, *seppie in zimino* (cuttlefish with chard), and Elba-style octopus. Not forgetting *schiaccia briaca*: a traditional sweet cake made with Alchermes and a shower of dried fruit. A single slice will give you a delicious energy boost.
It is easy to make friends here if you are looking for company.
And when you leave, you will take with you a piece of Elba that you won’t find in any guidebook.
A surprise for your children: Eugenio is an experienced farmer and is always happy to take your little ones for a tractor ride through the fields. Who will have more fun?
A family story
Casa Marisa: vineyards, olive trees and three generations of Elba locals
The Anselmi family has deep-rooted winemaking traditions. Eugenio’s grandfather settled permanently in Schiopparello in 1921, but it was in 1957 that his father, a true Elba local, built the current house. He dedicated it to his wife Marisa, a spirited Milanese woman who moved to the island for love and to give birth to Eugenio.
Since 1972, Casa Marisa has been an agriturismo thanks to the visionary spirit of Anselmi Junior. He grew up here and learned to work the land following his parents’ teachings. His eyes light up when he tells this story, especially when talking about his heritage.
Today, Eugenio carries on the farming tradition and produces extra virgin olive oil from Frantoio, Pendolino and Moraiolo trees, as well as classic Elba wines: a crisp white from Trebbiano and Vermentino grapes, and a bold red from Merlot vines.
A warm welcome you can truly feel – and taste: guests always receive a complimentary bottle of olive oil and wine upon arrival.
“The future of Casa Marisa, and of hospitality on the island, is about giving that extra touch that makes guests truly appreciate Elba. If it rains, or if you need a tip, we have the place and the experience to offer the right advice,” says Eugenio.
And he is absolutely right. When you love your land this much, sharing its life and beauty with travellers becomes a true mission!
