Sports and outdoor activities
Trekking and open-air adventures to explore the local area
Trekking and open-air adventures to explore the local area
We’re in the green heart of the Pisa countryside — a lesser-known corner of Tuscany still waiting to be discovered.
Here, in the gentle landscape of the Fine River valley, trails wind their way through vineyards, olive groves and timeless villages — perfect for walking or running.
One of the most scenic routes starts at Lago di Santa Luce, a protected area rich in biodiversity. From there, it continues along white gravel roads and woodland paths to the villages of Santa Luce and Pastina — a journey through nature and history, with views stretching all the way to the sea.
Along the way, you might spot grazing deer, flocks of sheep, rows of cypress trees and old stone farmhouses, before reaching the hills of Pomaia, where Tibetan prayer flags flutter in the wind — home to the Lama Tzong Khapa Institute, one of Europe’s most important Buddhist centres.
Starting point: directly from the property or from a nearby meeting point. Local guides available on request
Cycling and e-bike trails with panoramic views
Quiet country roads winding through the hills, forest tracks beneath centuries-old trees and scenic trails with postcard views — Podere Cortesi is the perfect base for discovering the region by bike, with routes starting just a few metres from your doorstep.
With your bike or e-bike, you can explore hidden corners, medieval hamlets and ever-changing landscapes at your own pace.
Birdwatching in the Lipu Nature Reserve of Santa Luce
Just a few minutes’ drive from the estate lies the Lipu Nature Reserve of Santa Luce — a paradise for birdwatching enthusiasts.
Among reed beds and quiet ponds, you can spot herons, black-winged stilts, marsh harriers and many other rare species in their natural habitat.
More than 200 species can be observed here throughout the year.
All you need is a pair of binoculars to dive into a world of shifting colours and sounds, different in every season.
The scent of the sea
Just 16 km away, you’ll find Castiglioncello, perfect for a day by the sea.
This rocky stretch of coast is ideal for swimming and snorkelling, with beautiful seabeds to explore.
Other activities available include sailing, kitesurfing, surfing, bodyboarding, SUP and diving.
Riding like the Sioux
Did you know you can ride like a true Sioux? Just a five-minute drive from the estate.
At the nearby ranch, you can experience Native American bareback riding, an ancient technique from the Great Plains tribes.
Here, riding becomes an experience of deep connection: no bit, no saddle, no pressure — just trust, energy and harmony between horse and rider.
Expert instructors will guide you as you learn to ride freely, relying on instinct and heart, and building a unique bond with your four-legged companion.
An unforgettable experience to reconnect with nature — and with yourself.
Farm-to-table restaurant
Flavour with heart: seasonal cuisine and local produce
At Podere Cortesi, eating well is part of the experience. At Il Molinaccio, the on-site agriturismo restaurant, you’ll find traditional Tuscan cuisine and time-honoured flavours, prepared with care — just like your favourite grandmother would.
Homemade egg pasta, slow-cooked sauces with fresh ingredients, local cured meats and top-quality cuts, and tempting desserts. Feeling hungry yet?
And of course, every day begins with the right energy — seasonal breakfast options served with care, because a good start matters.
Another highlight: typical local products. Podere Cortesi is also an organic farm. Between meat and vegetable sauces, preserves, jams, honey and extra virgin olive oil, you’ll find it hard to choose what to take home.
A love story rooted in the land
More than 20 years of passion for Tuscany
The story of Podere Cortesi began over 20 years ago, driven by the love that Gionata and Serena have for their land.
“Our agriturismo was born in the early 2000s, when we decided to enhance and share the land we care so deeply about, offering travellers the chance to relax in a simple, authentic setting — far from cities and the usual tourist routes.”
Gionata and Serena, partners in life and in work, run the agriturismo, welcoming guests and bringing fresh, local food to the table.
Enio, a professional butcher, selects premium cuts for guests and prepares homemade egg pasta using only farm-to-table ingredients.
Giustina, the very image of a caring grandmother, brings warmth and attention to every dish.
And then there are Mattia and Elettra, young and enthusiastic, who learned the ropes early on and help create the informal, welcoming spirit of the Podere.
“We like to think we’re offering an ‘authentic’ holiday — full of genuine flavours, local traditions, walks through the woods or by the lake, and moments of togetherness under the portico or in our restaurant. Everything we serve is fresh, from farm to table, and rooted in the Tuscan tradition.
Our motto? ‘The desire to feel good.’ Because that’s what life is really about: feeling good — with yourself, with nature, and with others.”
Live the real Tuscany: authentic, nourishing, and peaceful in the hills of Pisa. Book your next holiday at Podere Cortesi in Santa Luce.
